About Me

When I set out to undertake a blog, the name AffuentAdventures stuck with me even though I had some trepidation about the word “affluent.” There are several meanings for affluent, most of them focused on wealth. My take on the word is its synonym “rich.” I believe we all can have very rich experiences that have little to do with money. Those rich experiences use the currency of beauty, history, heritage, and connect with us in an individual space that delights, and yes, enriches us. And how wonderful to share that connection. That’s my mission with AffluentAdventures.

Who am I? A baby boomer who grew up with a wanderlust that has never wavered. Its taken me from the rubber plantations of Malaysia to the Icy Straits of Alaska; the lavender fields of Bulgaria to the petroglyphs of Monument Valley. Oh, and did I mention I’ve been a wine and food columnist for 30-odd years. It all flows deliciously together.

And lets not forget the “adventure” part. While I once could tick off a double digit day hike with an elevation gain in the four figures, and come back for more the following day, now I like the sound of a softer kind of physical adventure that stretches the mind and the spirit as well as the ham strings.

I want to share my stories with you in the hope that some iteration can become your story. Occasionally you’ll meet some of my very well traveled friends. And what would a blog be without news you can really use. We’ll have loads of that too.

I know there’s lots of competition for your time. So thanks for coming along with me on this ride,

Kristine
